PBA membership and retention numbers up for 2009
Beauty professionals continue to seek out trade associations

Jan. 29, 2010- Member retention and growth was up in 2009 for the Professional Beauty Association (PBA), which recently merged with the National Cosmetology Association (NCA). The PBA continues to increase value for members through continued education, networking opportunities, government advocacy and professional events. In 2010, the Association is opening up a fourth section of membership for licensed professionals, which NCA provides.
"Considering most businesses continue to cut all non-essential costs during the current economic environment, increases in membership across multiple sections and relatively strong retention is evidence membership in PBA is viewed as a valuable resource," says Elizabeth Fantetti, Director of Membership for PBA. "In addition, we are seeing more members take advantage of useful membership tools such as online member networking, business building teleconferences, and business blueprints."
Highlights from 2009 for association membership included 601 new members, significant growth in the manufacturing and distributor sectors, and the highest renewal rates since 2004 (62 per cent). As the PBA/NCA merger is fully integrated over 2010, members can hope to see a more unified trade association.
