Toronto hair team styles models for gala event
Jan. 23, 2009- Torontonians got a taste of high-end European fashion in late November when well-known Italian fashion designer Giambattista Valli—a regular at Paris Fashion Week—brought his spring/summer 2009 collection to the city for a gala fundraiser at the Royal Ontario Museum.

Held in support of the ROM’s Textile and Costume Endowment Fund, which helps brings historical threads to the renowned Toronto museum, the gala was attended by Toronto’s elite and the media and held inside the building's modernist extension, the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal.
Behind the scenes, the team from Salon Daniel, helmed by L’Oréal Professionnel portfolio artist Daniel Fiorio, was on hand to create a ’50s-inspired coif for models. Fiorio said he met with the designer the night before the show to develop the hair look: a strong, throwback-style updo with a softly disheveled finishing touch. Colin Ford, LP’s director of education, said that the team was putting together an haute coiffure look to complement the haute couture collection that would be presented. “It’s not about perfect hair,” said Ford, “it’s hair of today with influences of yesterday.”
On the runway, pastel and monochromatic cream and black dresses that flared out from the waist brought to mind’50s-era femininity, along with slightly slouchily structured pant and skirt suits.
