LG Fashion Week F/W 09 takes T.O. by storm
Canadian designers showcase collections at Canada's premiere fashion event
March 27, 2009- Nathan Phillips Square, in front of Toronto's City Hall, was taken over by the tents when it played host to LG Fashion Week March 16 to 21. And although the summer still looms ahead, this week gave Canadian designers an opportunity to showcase their Fall/Winter 2009 collections for an ecstatic audience of industry big wigs, media types and the public.
David Dixon kicked off the week with a collection of classic cocktail dresses paired with long, elegant satin gloves. The audience was also treated to a little extra David as he honoured Barbie’s 50th birthday with a second collection inspired by the iconic doll. Among the usual suspects—Pink Tartan, Joe Fresh, Andy The-Anh, Joeffer Caoc, and Bustle—Fashion Week also saw the return of Comrags and Lundström to the runway. The runway was also littered with surprise walks from Canadian supermodels Irina Lazareanu, who opened and closed the Joe Fresh show, and Stacey McKenzie who delivered an unexpected booty shake during the Carlton Brown show to cheers and applause.
During the latter half of the week Project Runway Canada hosted a showcase featuring the remaining three designers left on the current season two—host Iman also made a brief cameo. And proving the power of the reality show, Project Runway season one alumni, Carlie Wong, Evan Biddell and Lucian Matis also showcased their latest collections.
